Reselling your copy to other players: how resale works
On LiveGotchi, a copy of an egg or decoration that exists in limited numbers can be resold to another player, on the trading post, at a price in credits set by the seller. From that price, the creator first receives their royalty, the platform then takes its commission on the rest, and the seller receives the balance as earned credits. Reselling lets you get back part of your credits, with no promise of profit: everything stays in credits, in a closed in-game economy.
Buy, raise, resell
A LiveGotchi egg is drawn by a creator: the look of a creature, its evolution tree, its powers. There are two ways to get one:
- new, in the Incubator, at the price set by its creator;
- second-hand, on the trading post, at the price set by another player.
Every copy is paid for, carries its number when it exists in limited numbers, and gives one creature at a time. You raise that creature on your stream overlay. When you want to part with the copy, you can put it back up for sale, but the creature does not go with it.
What can be resold, and what cannot
- A single copy or limited copies can be resold, eggs and decorations alike. Each one carries its number, for example “no. 3 of 10”.
- Unlimited copies never go through the trading post. They are obtained new from their creator, at the same price for everyone: reselling them would mean standing between the creator and their audience.
- A living creature is not for sale. To sell its copy, you first remove the creature from the Nursery, which takes it back to the egg stage: its progress is lost. Whoever buys the copy hatches their own creature.
- A copy has only one open listing at a time: nobody sells the same thing twice.
Listing a copy, step by step
- Once logged in, open the trading post through the “Trading post” link in the site's navigation bar.
- In “Sell a copy”, pick a free copy, neither being raised nor already listed. Several copies of the same egg are listed one by one.
- Type your price in credits. It is free to choose, zero included.
- The page shows what you would receive at that price. Click “List for sale”.
- As long as nobody has bought it, the remove button closes the listing.
What the seller gets back
When a player buys the copy, the price is split in three, in this order:
- The creator's royalty, calculated on the full price.
- The platform's commission, calculated on what remains, at the rate shown on the trading post.
- The balance, paid to the seller as earned credits.
The buyer pays the listed price, and nothing more; if they do not have enough credits, nothing moves. For example, a copy of Gargouillon, whose royalty is 15 out of a hundred, resold for 600 credits: 90 credits go to its creator, the platform's commission is calculated on the remaining 510, and the seller receives the balance.
Earned credits are spent like any others, in the Incubator and for nursery slots.
What the creator receives
A resale does not bypass the creator: their royalty is taken first, every time a copy changes hands. They set it when creating their egg, can lower it later but never raise it, and the creation's public page shows it. Unlimited copies pay none, since they are never resold.
The creator's side, new sales included, is covered in Creators: credits on every purchase, and on every resale. To become a creator, see the creators page.
What a single or limited copy is worth
- A finite number, set once and for all. A single copy exists only once; limited copies exist in a number chosen at creation, which never changes.
- Once all have been issued, the Incubator gives out no more: the trading post becomes the only way to get one.
- A per-account cap can limit how many copies one account gets new in the Incubator.
- A resale price set by the seller, worth only what a buyer agrees to pay. LiveGotchi sets no resale price and guarantees no profit: a copy may resell for more, for the same, for less, or not find a buyer.
Playing without spending: what is true
- Creating an account is free, and some eggs and decorations are free.
- On sign-up, welcome credits are given; the amount is shown on the home page.
- Reselling a copy lets you get back part of what it cost, as earned credits, and spend them on another one.
But nothing guarantees that a copy finds a buyer, or at what price, and every resale leaves its royalty to the creator and its commission to the platform. Reselling therefore does not let you play for free forever, and earned credits are never converted.
A closed in-game economy
Credits are bought in packs in the shop or earned: sales and royalties for creators, trading post resales for players, ranked arena and tournaments for fighters. Bought or earned, they are spent in the game and never leave it.
Frequently asked questions
Can an unlimited copy be resold?
No. Unlimited copies are obtained new in the Incubator, from their creator. Only a single copy or limited copies go through the trading post.
What happens to my creature if I resell its copy?
You first remove it from the Nursery, which takes it back to the egg stage and erases its progress. The buyer receives the copy and hatches their own creature.
What does the seller receive?
The price, minus the creator's royalty, then minus the platform's commission calculated on the rest. The balance arrives as earned credits, which are spent in the game.
Does reselling let me play for free?
Reselling lets you get back part of your credits, with no guarantee of price or buyer. With a free account, free eggs and decorations and the welcome credits, you can start without buying anything, but nothing promises free play forever.
Does the creator receive anything on a resale?
Yes. Their royalty is taken first from the price of every resale, then paid as earned credits.
