Creators: credits on every purchase, and on every resale
A LiveGotchi creator receives credits at two moments. When a player gets a new copy of their egg in the Incubator, the creator's share is paid instantly, in earned credits. When a copy is later resold between players on the trading post, the creator receives their royalty, taken first from the price. Everything is settled in credits, in a closed in-game economy.
Two moments, two mechanisms
- Selling a new copy, in the Incubator: the price is the one the creator set, and their share comes back to them as earned credits.
- Reselling a copy, on the trading post: the price is the seller's, and the creator receives their royalty every time the copy changes hands.
Unlimited copies are never resold: they are obtained new from their creator, at the same price for everyone, and only bring something on the new sale. A single copy or limited copies, on the other hand, keep bringing credits to their creator as long as they change hands.
The creator's share on a new sale
- The calculation: the price of the copy, multiplied by the creator's share. The rest is the platform's share, a setting the platform keeps.
- Where to read it: on the “My earned credits” page, reached from My account, on the “Your share of the next sale” line.
- Volume tiers: the creator's share can rise in tiers, depending on how many copies they have already sold, across all their eggs. When tiers exist, the page shows the next one and how many sales remain to reach it.
- A rate frozen on each sale: a setting that changes only applies to future sales, never to past ones.
- An immediate payment: the share arrives as earned credits at the very moment of the sale.
The price itself stays free: a creation can cost nothing. And a creator who takes a copy of their own creation pays nothing; it is not a sale, but the copy counts among the copies issued. The reasoning behind prices is covered in How the prices of the launch collection were calculated.
The royalty on every resale
- Set at creation, in the Creation workshop, in the “Your royalty on each resale” field, under a cap set by the platform.
- It can go down, never back up. The server refuses any increase after publication: a player who gets a copy knows the royalty will not get heavier.
- No royalty on unlimited copies, since they are never resold.
- Visible before buying: a creation's public page shows the “Creator royalty on every resale”.
A worked example: Gargouillon carries a royalty of 15 out of a hundred. If one of its copies were resold for 600 credits, its new price, the royalty would pay 90 credits to Crit20, as earned credits, before any other share.
Who receives what on a resale
When a player buys a copy on the trading post, the price is split in three, in this order:
- The creator's royalty, calculated on the full price.
- The platform's commission, calculated on what remains. Its rate is shown on the trading post, before listing.
- The balance, paid to the seller as earned credits. The trading post tells them what they would receive before they publish their listing.
The buyer pays the listed price, and nothing more. The trading post rules, and what can be resold, are in Reselling an egg to other players.
Where to follow your earned credits
The “My earned credits” page details sales of new copies: copies sold, sales volume, total earned credits, a breakdown by egg, month by month, and the latest sales with the rate applied to each.
Resale royalties, for their part, go straight into the earned credits in your pocket, shown on the same page. Earned credits are spent like any others: in the Incubator, and for nursery slots.
A closed economy
LiveGotchi runs a closed in-game economy. Credits are bought in packs in the shop or earned in the game, and they stay in the game: earned credits are never converted. A creator is rewarded in credits, which they use to get other creations, open slots, or publish their own eggs.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a creator receive on the sale of a new copy?
The price multiplied by their share, shown on the “My earned credits” page. The rate is frozen at the moment of each sale, and the share is paid instantly, as earned credits.
Does the creator receive anything when their egg is resold?
Yes. On every resale on the trading post, their royalty is taken first from the price, then paid as earned credits.
Can I change my royalty after publishing?
You can lower it, never raise it. That is what lets a player know, when buying, that the royalty will not get heavier.
Can earned credits be converted?
No. The economy is closed: earned credits are spent in the game, like any other credits.
